英语五年级下册Unit 7 Chinese festivals

(Period 1Story time)

一、教学目标

1. 听懂,会读,会说the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Double Ninth Festival节日。

2. 了解四个中国节日相关的知识,如名称,时间,活动等。

3. 能借助思维导图运用已有的知识和经验介绍中国的传统节日。

 

二、教学重点

1. 听懂,会读,会说四个节日名称:the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Double Ninth Festival

2. 了解四个节日相关的知识,如名称,时间,活动等。

3. 运用文本信息及生活经验介绍中国的传统节日。

 

三、教学难点

1、能利用思维导图复述四个节日的相关信息。

2、节日的书写格式及in/on与日期、月份的搭配。

 

四、教学过程

Step 1 Warm-up

1. Enjoy some pictures about western holidays.

T: Do you know these holidays? Are they Chinese holidays?

  Yes, they are Western holidays.

  (出示圣诞节图片)What do you know about Christmas?

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ss say something about Christmas.

 

Step 2 Look and guess

1. We know Christmas is a very important holiday in Western countries.

Are there any important holidays in China? Do you know any Chinese Festivals?

5. Watch and match.(看视频将相应的节日与月份进行匹配)。

Step 3 Dragon Boat Festival

1. T引导学生了解端午节相关内容,

Look at these festivals, what festival is coming soon?

(同时出示6月份日历表,把端午节圈出来) T板书简笔画龙舟。

Look, the Dragon Boat Festival is on the 14th of June this year. But in 2017 it was on the 30th of May. (出示20175月日历表,圈出端午节日期) So the dates in each year are different. Sometimes in May, sometimes in June.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   出示课文第二段文本,让学生找出端午节的活动和特色食物,并新授:dragon boat race/ have the dragon boat races/watch the dragon boat races; eat rice dumplings.

T 拓展:rice dumpling: We eat rice dumplings and have dragon boat races to commemorate a very famous person. Do you know him? Yes, we should admire Quyuan. Hes a great poet and minister. He loved his country so much. In the end his homeland was captured by Qin, he jumped into  river, do you know?

 

Step 4 Group work

1. Read the rest festivals and finish the mind map. T分配好各小组学习任务)

Rules: (1Four students a group.

(2) Read, underline and finish the mind map.

2. Check the mind map.

AThe first one is the Spring Festival. It is the beginning of the new year. So we also call it Chinese New Year. It means reunion for all Chinese people. We know the date of Chinese festival is not the same every year. Because it is according to the Lunar Calendar. So the Spring Festival is in January or February.

B: The third one is the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Here Mid means middle. Its in the middle of autumn according to the lunar calendar. Who can read it?

It is a festival for family reunion. Look, how happy they are!

T拓展介绍moon cake: Moon cakes are round. They mean family reunion. And there are many flavors.

冰皮月饼:Snow skin mooncake    豆沙:Sweet bean paste mooncake

五仁:Five kernel mooncake       莲蓉:Lotus seed paste mooncake

C: The fourth one is Double Ninth Festival

This festival is on the ninth day of the ninth month in Lunar calendar.

teach: ninth

There are two ninth here, so we use (teach double)

So this festival is

In solar calendar, its in October or November.

This festival is for old people. So we should be nice to them.

Step 5 Read the story

1. Read after the tape.

Step 6 Consolidation

1. Retell the four Chinese festivals according to the mind map.

2. Complete the exercises on Page 43 in Workbook.

If we want to introduce Chinese festivals what else can we talk about?

(feelings, clothes, origin, meaning)

We can talk about the date, and the food. We know different festivals have different food. And we can talk about the activities. But what else do people usually do, do you know? For example, at the Spring Festival, children usually get red packets. Thats your favourtie, right? And we usually light firecrackers.

We can talk about the clothes. We have many traditional clothes, like cheongsams, tang suit and han fu. Theyre really beautiful.

We can also talk about the feelings. When we spend the festival, we are usually happy and exciting.

We can talk about the origin too. Why do people celebrate these festivals? Look, heres a demon called Ninashou. People used firecrackers to frighten it away. This is the origin of the Spring Festival.

Look, hes Quyuan. At the Dragon Boat Festival, we should commemorate him.

Look, whos she? Yes, shes a very beautiful fairy called Change. After flying to the moon, her husband missed her so much, so he put her favourite food and fruit under the moon. This is the origin of the Mid- Autumn Festival.

The Double Ninth Festival is to worship the God and pray for harvest at the beginning. Now it is a festival to wish long life and health for old people.

And we can talk about the meaning of the festival. Some festivals mean family reunion. People get together. Some festivals mean commemoration. We should commemorate them and inherit their spirit. Some festivals mean love. We should love old people, love our country. OK?
